As part of our annual retreat, we wanted to go somewhere inspiring and refreshing. We knew Ireland had a lot to offer. Emily and her family have been there many times and Dingle, Ireland is one of the few places she just feels settled, relaxed and in a flow state quite frequently. We decided to take our families there for the Thanksgiving break and we found so many sources of renewed creativity and content that we cannot wait to share with you.
Going into this trip, we knew that we wanted to design something from it. We had some loose ideas, but we wanted to let the trip steer our creativity and inspiration along the way. We plan to post more content and travels as the weeks go on, but we will start with a short overview of our trip in case any of you are interested or want to go.
Emily and her husband went to Ireland on their honeymoon back in 2018 and have been back several times since. It is a wonderful place to go in the summer as there is typical rain throughout the off season. We got rather lucky with some sun and even some rainbows.
We flew out of Philadelphia on an overnight direct flight to Dublin. It is a 5 hour time change so if you sleep on the plane and don't overthink the time difference - you wake up in the morning. We landed around 8 a.m. local time.
We plan to share many more details about the trip, but in short we had branding photos taken by a local photographer, Aidan Fitzgerald. He spent a few hours with us around Slea Head Drive (worth all the views) and took some content for us as well. He was lovely and shared a lot of inside info with us along our journey.
We had a meeting at the Dingle Skellig Hotel which was all dressed up for the holidays. We met with their event manager, Edel, who shared lots of details about Irish wedding traditions and timelines. We plan to do a whole post on this one. We even got to enjoy their Irish Breakfast with our families.
We took the families to the Kingdom Falconry for a private experience. Our knowledgable guide flew several birds for us including a Harris Hawk. They share all the details about the birds and even allow some to land on your arm. We got to hold two different owls as well. They made us feel so comfortable and allowed us to get several photos and videos throughout that we will indeed be showing.
We also had a meeting with Shane and Rebecca, the owners of Outwest. "At Outwest, we design premium outdoor gear that is both inspired by and built for Ireland’s wild landscapes." Their mission and their energy is inspiring in itself. Their growth has been fast and intentional. So it was so nice sitting down to talk business and they gave us some great takeaways.
Finally, we landed at the Guinness Storehouse at St. James Gate in Dublin. Not only is the brand iconic but their design is recognizable. The experience of the brewery is more of storytelling brining art and history at a crossroads. We took away a lot of ideas from this one
We will continue to share more in the weeks ahead. If you are going to Ireland or plan to, please reach out we would love to share more with you.
